NKUGWA’S TRIANGLE OF NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND GOVERNMENT FOCUS
In this paper, we will defend the framework that suggests that nations develop by focusing on three key factors: energy, transport, and security, with a particular emphasis on the role of the judiciary and justice system in driving economic development. We will present evidence to support this framework and draw a triangle to illustrate the interdependent nature of these factors.
Energy is a fundamental component of economic development. Access to reliable and affordable energy sources is essential for powering industries, homes, and businesses. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), “energy is the lifeblood of modern economies and the key to improving living standards.”
There are numerous statistics that demonstrate the importance of energy to economic development. For example, the IEA reports that “countries with higher levels of energy access tend to have higher GDP per capita and lower poverty rates.” This suggests that increasing energy access can have a direct impact on a nation’s economic performance and its ability to reduce poverty.
Transport is another critical factor in economic development. Efficient and reliable transportation systems are necessary for the movement of goods and people, and for facilitating trade and economic activity. According to the World Bank, “investment in transport can have a significant impact on economic growth, as it enables countries to connect to global markets and improve the mobility of goods and people within the country.”
